Black seed (Nigella sativa) has so many healing properties, it's been said that the only thing it doesn't cure is death. An active ingredient, thymoquinone, is well known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. So, let's start with some reported uses:

How Nandi uses the seeds: 
  1. Place a teaspoon of black seed in a saucepan filled with 16 - 32 ounces of water. Cover. Bring to a boil. After five minutes, turn off fire and let seeds and water sit covered and undisturbed for no less than ten minutes. Strain. Add honey (optional) and drink up. Note: Nandi also prepares the mixture in the morning, and then drinks it at night before bedtime. She sometimes drinks half in the morning and the other half at night. When splitting up between morning and bedtime, she adds two teaspoons to the water. 
  2. Heat a teaspoon of black seed on the lowest setting in a skillet. Taste one seed prior to heating, so you are aware of its original tart taste and then taste another a few minutes into heating. If the seed tastes bland, it's ready. Let seeds completely cool. Ground seeds with mortal and pestle, in food processor or coffee grinder. Take a teaspoon of ground seed along with a teaspoon of honey. This can be taken twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime.
